Whats wrong wtih your current system?

That said, I'd start by looking to see what your current system can do as far as fixing & upgrading. You'd be supprised at how much faster it will seem on the exact same hw after a good wipe and reinstall - windows gets incredibly crufty after a while. Then maybe look at maxing the RAM in the current system.

If you still want to buy new, decide on intel vs amd, get as many cores as you can afford in a slower cpu and max the ram out.
