Well...that was a long read. I'll sum up my thoughts this way. When C&D fired Brock Yates, I let my subscription expire.
Jeanes? I didn't care one way or the other. I wouldn't count him among my favorite automotive writers...pretty much middle of the pack.
My top two? Brock Yates and Peter Egan. Egan #1 of those out there today as far as I'm concerned.
