I'm sure it happens, but around here we hear about bikers dying at least once a week either at the scene or shortly after they arrive at the hospital. Lots of idiots on the highways without helmets and at least one a week dies. I never hear about any of them spending years in comas. Again, probably happens, but I doubt it's very common.

Now I did ride through a swarm of bees once and I was totally covered in full gear. I do kind of wonder what happened to those Harley guys behind me wearing jeans, t-shirts and no helmets.
