I agree. The weak hand is odd and likely popping the may release and sometimes forcing your right thumb up into the safety.
My weak hand is lower with the mag resting on the base of my pinky and ring fingers.
Eta: I'm nonexpert, but my grip works and I've never dropped a mag on accident nor hit the safety.
