Regulator/Rectifier has 2 ground wires, strangely. One was disconnected from the neg battery terminal. I still don't understand why the 2nd one alone wasn't enough. I'm also not sure for how long that stray wire's been disconnected. Only after I pulled the battery to recharge it out of the bike (and reconnected it in the dark under a streetlamp on the side of the road in order to bring the bike home)? Or all along (even before that)? If the latter is true, what led to the initial charging problem that left me stranded?
Either way, I took the bike on a half-hour test ride up to Mulholland today and it charged fine the entire time. Now that I have a spare regulator sitting on the bench at home, I'm sure the original will never fail me.
