if it was on clearance and that cheap chances are the thing spent most of it's life in the box getting banged around working it's way through inventory/stores/whatever........or maybe even bought and returned......
i'd pop it apart, check what you can, look for missing parts which could've been "borrowed" etc.....
be aware, if you take too much apart and a service guy shows up make sure it's back together as you received it as they may refuse warranty service since you "tampered" with it......
i'd wait for the service guy to look at it.....and relax......just go buy some new clean sox
