If you want to take notes, measure the 6 strings, one at a time at the first fret and 12th. That will give you what you need to know for replacing the nut if needed and the saddle heights. You can measure the saddle heights themselves, but the 12th fret measurement will cause the saddles to be at the right heights.

P.S. The string heights should be different from the low "e" to high... At least the three low stings should be 5/64ths (example) and the three high strings should be 3/64ths (example) at the first fret.
