I have to wonder, how many of the football haters here have played the sport competitively?
The thing that makes pro football great is simple: they are the fastest, strongest, most athletically gifted football players in the world.
I believe if you've BTDT you can appreciate those exemplary skills all the more.
Kind of like watching golf. if you've never played golf at a decent level, it would be very difficult to appreciate the shots they make. But if you've actually worked hard ot make shots like that and couldn't, you're more likely to appreciate just how hard it is and how special what they are doing is.
That extremism is at the heart of it.
I like college football too but it's amateur hour when compared to the pros.
Steve Young put it this way in a recent interview:
in college, everyone is open. In the pros, no one is open.
IMO what is killing pro football is the low-life low-class antics. The stoopid dancing in the end zone, the showboating, the clueless acting out, the attention whoring.
A guy makes a sack and jumps around like a fool as if he just found a cure for cancer, but all he did was exactly what he was getting paid millions of dollars to do and waht was expected of him.
How many of us jump around like low-life idjuts every time we do our job at work?
WHOOO HOO, I sent an e-mail.
Look at me, look at me, I made a desision. BAA!
And how many times are these low-lifes going to get in trouble with the law?
On a local news radio station they have a daily feature on the sports report called "THE ATHLETE ARREST OF THE DAY!"
He could change it to the "athlete arrest of the hour" and only have to cover the cincinnati bengals.
That's what is ruining the game.
I don't care if it is a "cultural thing". Get rid of it and bring back some class to the game.
The team owners need to be more selective in who they sign.
