Like Porsche. Or Leica.

I am happy that there are still companies like this around in today's disposable world.
I've become a lot less enthusiastic about Apple over the past few years. The hardware is great and basic computing is still a lot simpler. The basic interface is still much more elegant, but Apple has been piling on too many bells and whistles. The software tries to do too much thinking for you. It makes tasks automatic in ways that are counter intuitive and harder to understand than just doing them manually.
iPhoto is a good example. It's an awful product that Apple sets as the default in new machines. My friend lost all her photos every time she plugged her camera into her Mac. They weren't destroyed, just automatically put where the geniuses at Apple decided they should be stored, and only accessible in a way the geniuses at Apple decided they should be accessed.
She was in a hysterics until I got iPhoto turned off and got the photos put into folders she could access from Photoshop. The machines should come with no defaults set and ask you what programs you want to use, not come set up ready to work the way Apple engineers think you should work.
The problem with software is you never get the pleasure of ripping it out of the machine, throwing it on the bench, and beating it with a hammer.
