When you are crawling around, it might be better if the weight were on a pad on the front of your shin, rather than a situation where ceramic tile is crushing things against the bones of your foot and ankle. This would probably be better than most, if not all knee pads I would suspect, maybe a bit cumbersome, maybe a couple strips of that egg crate stuff or split some pipe insulation and lay it flat.
You could squirt some of that foam insulation for inside walls into a sock or something and mold it to your shin. I just thought of that though, so it might not work
