My Gauge had bad solders.
I would tap pn the gauge and it would correct itself.
I took mine off used a 9 volt battery to insure the guage is reading then I resolder the joints. All good now.
Could you not just place a DVM with a full tank and take reading at the sending unit to see what range of voltage you read at 4 points? Full, 3/4 1/2, 1/4. This way you don't have to crack open the gasket?
