Federal or county?
I've known counties to be fairly forgiving, especially if you call them quickly, apologize, and offer to show up the next available day.
I've also heard horror stories at the federal level. I know a federal judge in Peoria starts the day by making a big show of personally calling any absentee jurors, demanding they appear immediately, and filling out warrants for anyone who declines his personal invitations. Then he starts the court's business. (IIRC, jurors are there for a minimum two week commitment, so he does this once every two weeks.)
