I think when you become the 'center of the universe' you begin to expect everything to bend around you, and may be willing to just passively let that just take place, rather than grabbing hold and doing it yourself. Happily, there always will be exceptions. But believe me, organizations like SEMA are making a major effort to attract the younger generation to pick up a wrench.
