So, I figured something out -- the receiver for the key transmitter is the little half-dome thing in the middle of the dashboard, just behind the windshield. If I point the key right at that, it works great.
But should I have to do this? If I'm walking up from behind the car, this is a problem. Other cars I've had worked with much more universal range and field.
