Steve, you're absolutly right. It would also be difficult to nail down the fender clearance number. (esp in front. . . too much body variation)
My earlier point was about "the look." A 9" is going to be 1" bigger than an 8" ±1/10th (~?) The 245 tire size isn't going to vary enough between brands to fill that extra inch. Though it would be good to know just how much different the various brands measure.
