I'd be more worried about Sid crashing the thing than losing the keys... From a 250 to the duc is a big step.
I've been looking a Duc Monsters again in the classifieds. For like 2K € you have a good one, not the latest but still good looking bikes. I'd go for the 900 before the 600 though.
