Absolutely. A carport (or the building committee-friendly “driveway pergola”) can be a tricky animal when it comes to receiving city approval. Some cities tend to be more generous in their approvals if the structure is freestanding vs. connecting to the main house. We’ve been in “lengthy” discussions with our committee for a few months regarding the proximity of our pergola to the property line, spacing of the rafter tails, etc….finicky crap. I was hoping to have it finished by this month, now I’m just hoping to have it up by Fall. Hopefully your municipality is a little more in tune with reality.
