This can get ugly and expensive quick. Find out what's wrong first, make sure rebuild is required. Rebuild is at least 10K unless you do it yourself. Just redid a 3.0 and it cost me close to 14 by the time it was done. Could have gotten a lot more motor for that kind of cash. Would I do it again? Probably not, even though I love my SC, I now view it as my "starter Porsche". I'll never get the close to 30K I've got in, back out. The real positive thing about the rebuild is you've got no what ifs, like you may with a larger used engine, if that was the line of thought you had.
