I've never autocrossed, but I did have a 951. I loved the car, great handling, great power (once spooled-up), comfortable, but, from what I have heard, not the greatest autocrosser. The guys who seem to do well autocrossing use light cars with good low end "grunt" and very quick turn-in properties (Ithink the term is "tossable"). Actually, if you want to go with the 944 type, look into the S2, it has the turbo suspension and brakes but with a DOHC 3 liter engine, suppose to have good low end power, and suspension is just as "tuneable" as the 951's. On the other hand, if you want a track car, you can get 350 HP out of a 951 for about the cost of a 911 exhaust system.
Good luck,
