IMHO, with any car, do NOT expect to get your money back. Cars like "this" are not investments. A '73 911RS? yes. A 356 Speedster? yes. A backyard modded 914? no. Sorry.
In the end, any money you "get back" will be entirely dependent upon demand at the time of selling and the quality of work performed.
