The art is in the craftsmanship and although aesthetics rarely adds performance, it is the first indication of "pride in workmanship". Quality in aesthetics shows the application of professional judgment, quality control, and responsibility to provide the best possible performance / outcome.
If it looks sloppy it generally shows a lack of mechanical understanding or even a general laziness.
