Apparently his wife works, who knows what kind of coin she is bringing in, could be significant.
Not sure about CA but teachers retirement funds typically make wise investments.
2 weeks ago my wife got a check from her old gig in NY. Since she is no longer a NYC PS employee they had to cash her out.
She had not contributed the max percentage and had honestly forgotten all about it. It's been sitting there for 6 years or more.
The check was for more money than she'll make in her new gig this year.
Was a pleasant surprise.
