I had one as a kid, and when I got it - it was in much, much worse shape than this one is. The seat was nothing but duct tape, the exhaust required a beer can to replace a rotted out section, and to my dismay I learned very late that the cam chain tensioner arm was basically gone. (It never was all that strong...)

I have higher hopes for this one.

By the way, the missing lever isn't all that important. Redundant cable for the rear brake.

I'm rambling. Hope to spend some time with the thing tomorrow. My little guy (5 1/2) has already been hounding me for a ride. Can't wait to see that smile!

Thanks all for the cool responses on this post!
A new lever will cost $10.
Cycle Gear - TRACKSIDE: Universal Lever and Perch,

The cable is $14.

Both + shipping. I think on scooters it is better to have that double brake sensation with the hands. You can tell your children to squeeze both hands at the same time, instead of a hand and a foot. If they are about to run into something they may react better and not over brake the rear. You can adjust the cable tension to prevent this too.

You can also adjust the throttle out so your children won't be able to go WOT or max speed.
