Weird thing is I met my (now wife) when I was 52... and never even thought of asking anyone else.
I proposed to her in 2009 on the Redondo Beach pier... she said yes and we walked away... then she stopped, looked at me, and said "what do you think I was going to say?".
Then we laughed!
