i'm pretty sure in the industry any work platform can be called a scaffold.

my buddy took a ride on a falsework system collaspe in Napa. he is lucky he wasnt killed. (falsework is the framework that holds up the construction forms for bridge construction when the concrete is cast in place..monstrous stuff)
