The older cars are about the same, they just get warm quicker and the thermostat opens sooner. I think the thermostat on the 964's opens at a higher temp than the old cars. Usually I use a funnel which limits how quickly the oil gets into the tank and keeps it from pouring out. I usually add 8 quarts after a change, then drive it at slow speeds a bit to get the thermostat open.
