Honda got into the highest forms of racing in the '60's. They had dabbled in various lower formulas for a while and decided to step their game up a notch. Early Honda GP bikes were ridden by Japanese riders, who are smaller than average. However, the RC166 was raced in 1966 by a Brit, Mike Hailwood. It won all 10 races, and the championship.
Having said that, all 250's are small, even the modern ones. An average-sized guy looks too big for one of them. Some of the GP guys are normal sized, a few are 6 foot, or close. They spend some time in the wind tunnels working on their riding position.
