It doesn't matter which way it turns, unless you want the spark to be sent to the right cylinder.

In an SC the distributor turns CCW, so I think that the distributor gear will not match the crank gears.

Even if you could jam it in there you would still have issues because it would fire out of sequence, I suppose you could just rearrange the wires but it would probably only be a matter of seconds before the distributor gear was shredded.
