Sitka doesn’t have dock facilities for cruise ships, so all shore access is via tenders. In other uses, the tenders would be called “lifeboats,” for that’s their usual role—when not being used to shuttle us to shore, they’re hanging on hooks around the ship for use in case of emergency. Here’s a shot of one approaching the boat, with a full load of returning cruisers:
