Well it is actually, for me the border is 20 km away
And though it's such a short distance, you do instantly notice you are in a whole different country. Roads look different, houses, shops... Even the smell inside shops is slightly different, dunno why, but i can only assume they use different cleaning products with scents catered for the French noses

even the womens look different... usually shorter, not as much blondes... and because it's a big town (Lille) more exotic people in the big supermarkets..
even their food has different brand names :

I like shopping there not so much for fresh food, it won't be that better then our local butcher. But i do like to stock up on TV dinners, canned food, salami's , stuff i can find here, but different brands and flavours...
Just some welcome variation of junk food, for those days when i come home and can't be arsed to cook
And brought home a considerable bunch of cans for my strategic food stash...
