I think it may depend on the person. My mother really didn't like Utah or the mormons, my father and I and my brothers really liked it there. At least two of us (out of 4 brothers) plan to retire there eventually.
George, it might be worth it to send an e-mail to a local RE agent. They'll know the secret places that don't hit the inter-webs.
Allot of times the stuff that gets advertised is the stuff that doesn't move quickly and the real good stuff gets snatched up in a day.
Maybe they have a secret jewel just waiting for you or know of what that might be coming on the market soon.
