If Sid can't fully recover from the concussion then it will be a shame but his lifetime achievement list will end up as slightly above average. Look at "Alex Ov-choke-kin": great skill but chokes in the big games. If he can't get past that, he'll be just a quality player as opposed to a super-star.
I'm impressed with what he's done so far but I'm not ready to bow down and worship at the altar of Crosby just yet.
Nobody but you has mentioned the Hall of Fame, nobody but you mentioned the word legend. He already IS a superstar. And nobody asked you to bow down to him. But obviously you feel he is worthy of that.
I also grow tired of the media's incessant coverage of our stars, (read Tommy Brady), but to belittle his skills, accomplishment to date, and to compare him with chokers, (read this... he has NEVER choked, unlike your poor example), and average race car drivers makes you look very small and I don't think you are. You are a hockey fan. There is no reason to trash Crosby just because we all get our fill of the superstars of sport, (I'll throw up the next time I hear the word Favre).
Root for your Brunes, (and if he played for the Brunes you'd be defending him like a mother bear protecting her cub), but that no reason to trash the best player in the game. And YES he is.

He is the greatest and most accomplished player in the game today. Period. He has never failed to produce under pressure. Never. Not as a kid in Junior, not as a pro.

Slightly above average? Come on. Almost every player in the league would take his credentials and leave the game thrilled. He has amassed for more 'hardware' than any 'average' NHL player, and more total points than most players get in a career. It is apparent to me you really don't understand the way Canadians feel about hockey. Or the expectations of a nation.

Don't bow to him if he's not for you, but don't denigrate him. He is head and shoulders above Ovechkin, who has failed at everything except a watered down world championship.
+1 - other than it's not a Canadian thing, (although I know you Canucks LOVE your game ), it's a hockey thing.

Can we now get back on subject????
