Ok, just anecdotal, but here goes:

People who prefer to tinker with their own computers (linux types et al) prefer the Droid for greater security, greater configurability, and the like. People who like to pull things out of the box and use them prefer the iPhone.

I like tinkering with things, but my phone is sacred. I want it to do what I bought it to do, no questions asked, every time. My Droid-using friends rave about how great it is, and occasionally show me apps they've found that do things that Apple would never allow. But they also complain about incredibly poor battery life, duplicate text messages, etc.

(shrug) Just my view.
