While your at it-home remodeling

We decided to get new windows in the house. New , fresh, better insulated and a new style for the place. Problem one, where the new windows meet the tile in the master bath and where they meet the tile in the kitchen. No problem, get new shower tile and kitchen counter tops. You want to put new counter tops on the 35 year old cabinets, probably not ok new cabs. Problem, the new cabs have to fit in the old cabs footprint because my wife likes her floor and doesn't want to change that however we can't get a new , bigger refrigerator unless we tear up the floor. Ok new floor however that floor goes out to the family room, entry way and laundry room to a total of 800 sq. ft.. You can't tear out the old floor without removing the baseboard and replacing it but the old style base isn't available so a new base needs to be selected but it won't match the rest of the house so the whole house need to be redone. If we redo the floors its our chance to redo the built in entertainment center and fireplace that also have an intersection with the floor tile and can't be changed unless we redo the floor. There is more but you see where this is going. Our original budget of 18 to 20 thousand for the windows has grown to 100k or more and don't even get me started about contractors, 2 of which have not even shown up for their appointments. One told me that 20 miles was too far to drive to the job site for him and another that invited us to see another job he was doing that had so many flaws and mistakes I almost threw up . All I wanted was new windows so I could get the outside of the house painted, oh ya lets talk about painters.
