To be honest we were looking at new homes and couldn't find any thing we liked in our price range, a location we like and without gates, hoa and big property taxes so remodeling here was in the cards. I have seen a few neighbors houses that are up for sale that have had some remodeling done and it always seems evident where the old stops and the new begans, something I would like to avoid. The investment in remodeling won't hurt me as the house is worth 5 times what I paid for it even in todays market and I have 100% equity so it looks like we will just continue untill it looks right. We also wanted to get away from the "County look" anyway.
