Hiluxes are about half of the trucks that you see driving around over here in the 'stan. I really wish you could get one in the states. I've done some looking into grey market imports and other less legal methods of getting one in, but none of them are very practical. Yes, I know you can do the halfcut thing, but there is more to a Hilux than just the engine. The frame and suspension are completely different.. They are such solid, durable trucks, it is really unreal. While they would certainly fill a niche market in North America, it is not clear to me that they would be refined or luxurious enough for the typical consumer, which is exactly what I like about them. I've settled for the closest thing that I can get, which is a reltaively low mile '99 Tacoma. The older trucks are better than the new ones in my opinion.
