I saw an article a couple of years back about some company that was building bikes to sell in Africa, solid single speed bikes that had capacity for a passenger and had the wider tires and super solid frames. It was kind of a charity thing where the bikes were sold at cost and they offered attachments for a back wheel driven water pump for small scale irrigation.
I thought it was a great idea.
