I used two nylon straps to lift my 3.2 using a rented engine lift. Looped one thru the large slot in the engine mount bracket (opposite the crankshaft pulley) and the other looped under the two upper transmission mount bolts. These points are above the center of gravity and the engine was stable.
I looked at using the small eyelet you are referring to and thought the same thing, it looks too flimsy to me.
