I'd like to personally thank GWN7 and Duncan for saving me some coin! Before I imported my car I read this thread and the info they provided about not having to pay duty on a 25 year old antique. Well when I went to bring my car across even though I had this tariff code the border guard did not buy it and refused to put the car through as anything but the standard 8703.90.00.90 which has duty applicable.
I didn't want to get into a debate I couldn't win so I paid the duty knowing Duncan had posted a means to get a refund.
Well the refund took a LONG time to process BUT today I received a refund cheque for $1149.55
I have no doubt there are tons of people who have had to pay on older cars because they didn't belong to such a kick ass forum!
