In 2009 we began getting calls from readers who had sent some guy money for antique truck and tractor parts and they never heard from him again. He seemed to be operating from the North Belle Vernon, PA area. I told the police in Westmoreland county about it and they said he was in jail. I thought that meant they had caught him at his scam and jailed him. It turns out he had been in jail since 2007 on a child pornography charge and was operating from prison with the help of an accomplice! For a couple of years we got no reports about him until about two weeks ago. The PA police said he was released in July, is back at it, and they know about it. We get a call about every day now from someone who sent him money.
His MO is to peruse web sites and magazines for wanted ads for parts, call the people from a cell phone and say he has what they're looking for. He always has the money sent by Western Union. He claims he has a truck heading your way and will deliver for free. Of course you never hear from him again. We are working with the police in Sharon, but so far he's still on the loose. He is a registered sex offender in Sharon, PA now. From his Megan's Law rap sheet he goes by William Duane Stevenson, William Stevenson, Bill Stevenson, Bo Stevenson, and Bill Stevens. I don't know if he "sells" Porsche parts or not, but it wouldn't surprise me. Be careful.
