Many states in the West have reopened 'Open Hunting' on the wolves which only a few short years ago had been on the endangered list. It is a tough subject as the ranchers do lose cattle and other livestock to the packs.
However by the numbers wolves account for less than a percent or two of the total losses including other factors such as Dogs, Coyote, weather and sickness. I am of the firm belief that the Wolves belong here. Losses should certainly be avoided though preventative means as much as possible. However those should not include extermination of an indigenous breed to reduce losses by 1-2%. Further these losses must be calculated into the cost of doing business and not as an excuse all over again for open hunting.
Just my 0.2c
