Larry, I just used the iPhoto edit feature. Simply pulled up a picture on iPhoto, hit "edit" then "adjust" and played around with the exposure, saturation and temperature bars... if you peg those bars low you get the black and white effect.

with my old iPhone 3 I did the same thing but the pictures never came out even close to what results I got yesterday so the camera on the damn thing has improved. i'm not a camera guy so I'm really happy that I can pull these off.
