really I would have thought the top of a mast would be comparatively flimsy surely ?
I would think that the mast would be experiencing more force with a sail full of wind pushing it over. The height of the mast would provide sufficient mechanical leverage needed to tip the boat enough to get the keel free.
But I'm guessing here.
