I've been told that in the factory, when that VIN is stamped on the the front trunk crossmember, it's early enough in the car's build that it hasn't been decided to which market the car will be sent. Hence a generic (for them) stamping of "...ZZZ..." Don't know how true this explanation is, but rest assured that all US cars have that "...ZZZ..." in the front trunk that doesn't match the rest of the car/documentation.
Isn't the transmission serial number stamped on the bottom of the transmission? I recall seeing mine when I was lying on my back either swapping out CV joints or the transmission fluid.
