There is a line between wistful and whiny, and imho Carlson stomps all over it.
Being 3rd generation SoCal, I've seen the massive changes first hand. And while I might wax philosophic about the "old days," if one isn't a moron they can find plenty of open space and open roads in California. But throwing a textual tantrum about Monterey road conditions is kinda like going to a Chinese restaurant and complaining because you can't order pizza.
Besides, back then I had to walk uphill both ways...
