I guess the 'small number' of people are those who use location and notification services...
With my tweaks, I'm still getting about 2 days of battery life with moderate use. Still, good to know that it's not just me!

Mine was behaving after I killed syncing my work calendar to notification center.
I killed a bunch of dead recurring events and turned notification back on and all was good.
Couple of days ago battery went back in the crapper and sure enough I'd run into another batch of events that was causing calendar to get stuck in a sync loop.
Turned it off and back to normal.
