-Folks, tonight I put 10 gallons of ChevronTexaco gasoline in my car. 93 octane, or whatever it was, some gas-like-substance; I put it in my car. I've done this from the same station for the past few years, never had a problem.

However....


LATELY I've had a problem with the "vapors". The 928 cranks and almost starts, then cranks and comes online. This from a car that NEVER had any problem like this before. I can tell you why this is happening- fuel is boiling in the fuel rails.

I must admit, I have removed my belt-driven fan. That means that I have no main fan; My aux fan was rigged to run full time; This aux fan is easily more than enough.

The belt driven fan that I removed does nothing during shut down, so the problem isn't the lack of air movement.

I'm convinced that the alcohol gasoline that we are getting these days cannot cope with Florida. As such, I have come up with my own fuel: I call it NormOline. Call it what you want.

I'm going to buy, from the local airport, 5 gallons of 100LL aviation gasoline.

I'm going to buy, from a SPECIFIC Sunoco, 5 gallons of NO ethanol 90 octane gasoline.

[It is illegal to put aviation gasoline in an automobile. When you see me do it, you may call the police. When I go out to the airport, I tell them I want 10 gallons of 100LL in a can. They don't ask any questions.]

I typically put 10 gallons on fuel in my 928 when the low-fuel light comes on; That allows me to to an instant check of my fuel mileage, since I typically drive 100 miles at that point.

To get away from the issue of plug fouling, I'm using the Sunoco no-ethanol fuel. I'm already using this in all my lawnmowers, weed whips, my generator, and my boat. This is 90 octane, which is not enough for my ROW 928, which needs the highest octane it can find in North America, thus the addition of the 100LL avgas. It is very high octane, like 104, but not legal for automobiles. I've used it before, but i had gentle plug fouling; the neat thing was that my exhaust smelled totally different! It smelled like a Piper warrior exhaust.

-The alcohol gas from Texaco works but it is causing trouble. I already avoid it in my lawnmower, my weed-whip, and my boat. Now I'm going to avoid it in my 928.

My 928S2 has NO catalytic converters; It wasn't built with these, and the 100 LL would destroy them.

I'm getting away from alcohol gas. It is available at marinas, at airports, and at pure-gas.org For my car, I'm calling it NormOline-
