I beg to differ. Vehemently.
It's not firmware or IOS updates that are being pushed, it is, in fact, patches, updates and new revs of
iTunes that're causing the problem. Over. And. Over. And. Over. Everytime, it's something new.
Moral of the story is, if you buy an iPod, and it works, then never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever (and might I say EVER) let Apple push an update.
I'm pretty confident that those cork snorklers at Apple comprehend the meaning of "regression testing".
