Ask them to show you the regulation under the customs act which requires you to provide this? All you should of had to do was provide them of a list of the serial numbers from the list of years produced. If they dispute your claim then they have to show cause to dispute your claim.
Manufactures way back, never kept records of what engine went with what car. Just a range of serial numers used is certain years.
They as government agents should know the laws.
