I have a 2004R transmission. It is a 4 speed with a full lockup torque converter & I have a limited slip rear end. That part of the drive train is fine and will not be touched.

All this talk of engine upgrades - if you don't have a shift kit in the 2004R, I can tell you an automatic can be transformed by a good quality shift kit. I've put in dozens of these for friends and family over the years. I wouldn't think of owning an automatic without one.
